Interesting Name:

     Untravius

Anecdote:

A toddler came in with foot pain.
     “Which foot?”  I asked.
     The Mother smiled,
“Well, it’s either the left… or the right.”

PART XVIII Migrant Clinic Journal, 2002

9/12/02:  I returned to the church today at lunch time and again felt overwhelmed with its peace and sincerity.  The beautiful statues included Mary with her crown of stars, Joseph holding baby Jesus, Jesus being baptized - this smaller statue being on the baptismal font.  Above the altar was a beautiful painting of the crucifixion with Jesus on a cross above a darkened village.  There was a picture of Don Diego, to whom Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared.  Pictures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from Sister Faustina’s vision.  The  stained glass windows were a journey by themselves, many of which portrayed rural scenes in the area and were donated by local families, especially those related to Dr. Monk.  Two large kneelers were dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, again with all the large candles lit.
In  a side alcove to the chapel, there is a glassed off room for parents with children.  On the wall were pictures that must date back fifty or sixty years; they showed a poignant all African American class picture of five year olds.  Another showed a wedding ceremony in the same chapel, the eager, attractive young couple probably now having finished running the good race, the priest long gone now.  He was giving them communion and they were holding each other happily.
Another plaque in the church listed all the priests who had served there, going back to the 1890’s.  Another plaque stated that the church was originally dedicated in the 1870’s and a statement in Latin from the Raleigh Diocese makes some declaration of the church.  It was dated 1959 - when I was seven years old.
