Poetry:
"Summer Breeze"
by Seals and Crofts
See the curtains hangin' in the window
In the evenin' on a Friday night
Little light is shinin' through the window
Lets me know everything's alright
In the evenin' on a Friday night
Little light is shinin' through the window
Lets me know everything's alright
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
See the paper layin' on the sidewalk
A little music from the house next door
So I walked on up to the doorstep
Through the screen and across the floor
A little music from the house next door
So I walked on up to the doorstep
Through the screen and across the floor
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Sweet days of summer, the jasmine's in bloom
July is dressed up and playing her tune
And I come home from a hard day's work
And you're waiting there, not a care in the world
July is dressed up and playing her tune
And I come home from a hard day's work
And you're waiting there, not a care in the world
See the smile awaitin' in the kitchen
Food cookin' in the plates for two
Feel the arms that reach out to hold me
In the evening when the day is through
Food cookin' in the plates for two
Feel the arms that reach out to hold me
In the evening when the day is through
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze, makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Coup d'essai:
Favorite Musician/song:
When I took a few years off from medical school to play bass, I was inspired by Average White Band and Earth, Wind and Fire. I loved the driving bass and drums, the strong rhythms. As it turned out, I did form a band ("Synergy") that played just that…as well as jazz and rock.
However, I have a gentle memory of a lost opportunity in the past. I had traveled to New York City to buy the bass and speaker that I had wanted (Fender Precision Bass, 1974; Acoustic 370 Amplifier, enough to fill Shea Stadium) and a very soft spoken guitarist was there, also looking at musical instruments. He had a quiet voice and a humble, soft spoken demeanor, a quiet smile…that James Taylor aura of humility that I find essential in a musician. His hair was longish and he actually looked like Dan Seals. We talked and shared about our love of music. He asked me what I was doing and I explained my dreams of music. He said with a smile, "You should come and play with us. We do mainly Seals and Crofts." I deferred and wonder to this day what opportunity and friendships I missed playing the beautiful, spiritual songs that I love…Seals and Crofts. One of my favorite bands. (The bass player in Seals and Crofts is one that I most emulate.)
